Editors in Chief

ISAAC HWANG

Editor in Chief

Isaac is a senior pursuing a BS in Biology and a BA in Chemistry. Isaac has worked on the writing team as a staff writer, copy editor, and associate editor for Carolina Scientific in the past three years. He is originally from Georgia but considered North Carolina a home away from home. He works as a research assistant in the Schisler Lab in the McAllister Heart Institute and spends time volunteering on a farm! Aside from working on the magazine, he enjoys cooking and rock climbing.

SARAH GIANG

Editor in Chief

Sarah is a senior Biology and Women's and Gender Studies major with a geography minor. They have previously contributed to Carolina Scientific as a staff writer in Chemistry and Anthropology and served as an Associate Editor.

They work as a senior Research Assistant with the Robinson Lab studying the influence of alcohol on neural cholinergic system. They also volunteer at the Schiller Women's Affective Neuroscience Lab studying irritability in pregnant people.

Sarah enjoys watching horror movies and playing with their dogs!

 

Editorial Staff

MEITRA KAZEMI


MANAGING EDITOR

Meitra is a junior pursuing a B.S. in neuroscience and minors in data science and chemistry. She previously contributed to Carolina Scientific as a staff writer, copy editor and associate editor, and is excited to serve as the managing editor this year.

On campus, Meitra assists with research in a neurology lab studying epilepsy.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing the flute, basketball, and volleyball.

CORINNE DRABENSTOTT

COPY EDITOR

Corinne is a senior in Biomedical Engineering from Cary, North Carolina. She has been with Carolina Scientific for four years beginning as a copy editor and is now the copy editing chair. She works in the Sode Lab on biosensor and protien engineering research. She also has a passion for synthetic biology and started the UNC iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) team in 2022. She recently picked up chess as a hobby, enjoys being outside, and plays the ukuele!

TANISHA CHOUDHURY

DESIGN CHAIR

Tanisha is a senior from Cary, North Carolina pursuing a B.S. in Biology, with Chemistry and Creative Writing minors. She conducted research at the McAllister Heart Institute over the summer and is now a research assitant at the Marsico Lung Institute. In her free time, Tanisha enjoys drawing digitally, listening to music, and making bracelets.

NATALIE DRUFFNER


TREASURER

Natalie is a junior from Dallas, TX pursuing a B.S. in Polymer Chemistry and B.A. in Music. She has previously worked as a copy editor and as Secretary for Carolina Scientific.

On campus, Natalie is doing research to characterize the electrochemical activity of organic battery materials with the Jackson lab. Outside of research, she enjoys playing the viola, gardening, and learning new recipes. In the future, Natalie hopes to work in the renewable energy space to help develop more environmentally sustainable battery technologies.

 

RIA PATEL

FUNDRAISING CHAIR

Ria is a junior pursuing a BS in neuroscience and BSPH in nutrition (science & research) with a minor in chemistry. She previously contributed to Carolina Scientific as a staff writer for 4 semesters and is excited to serve as the fundraising chair this year.

On campus, Ria assists with research in a neuroscience lab studying childhood brain development and nutrition research that focuses on adolescent diet in informal settlements in Kenya.

In her spare time, Ria enjoys traveling, watching Dance Moms, trying new restaurants and spending time with her friends and family.

MASHA DIXON

PUBLICITY CHAIR

Masha is a sophomore pursuing a B.S. in Biology and a minor in English. Masha is actively involved on campus as a Communications Assistant for the University Libraries and previously served as a copy editor for Carolina Scientific.

She plans to pursue a PhD in conservation biology or ecology. In her free time, Masha has a passion for music and is a DJ for UNC's radio station, WXYC.

ANDREW PHAN


ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Andrew is a senior from Cary, NC, studying Neuroscience and Biology. He has worked as an associate editor for Carolina Scientific for the past year. He works as a research specialist in the Kabanov Lab and is an OUR Ambassador.

He hopes to apply to graduate school to pursue a career in neural-engineering, and in his free time he loves lifting big weights!

KRUTI BHARGAV


ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Kruti is a senior majoring in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry. She was previously a staff writer and now works as an associate editor for Carolina Scientific. In the future, she hopes to be a physician, either in pediatrics or OB/GYN. She currently works in the Bardone-Cone Lab studying body image and disordered eating, and the Hagood Lab studying pulmonary fibrosis. A fun fact about her is that she grew up in India!

DANIELA DANILOVA

ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Daniela is a junior from Chapel Hill, NC pursuing a BS in Quantitative Biology with minors in Statistics and Chemistry. For the past two years, she has worked with the Carolina Scientific team as a staff writer and copy editor.

She works as a research assistant in the Chen Lab at the Marsico Lung Institute, studying muco-obstructive pulmonary disease. In her free time, she enjoys writing and editing for other science blogs and practicing jiu jitsu!

JULIA BOLTZ

ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Julia is a junior from Durham, NC. She studies Quantitative Biology at UNC, as well as Data Science and Spanish for the Medical Professions. She conducts research in the Raab Lab studying chromatin remodeling and liver cancer. She also work as a medical scribe in the UNC Emergency Department. In her free time, she loves to hike, travel, try new restaurants, and watch TV with her friends!!

SPRIHAA KOLANUKUDURU

ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Sprihaa is a senior pursuing a BS in Neuroscience with a minor in Medicine, Literature, and Culture. Sprihaa was born and raised in the Bay Area, but has called North Carolina home for the past decade.

Sprihaa works at the Eroglu Lab at Duke University (but always reps Carolina!!!) and enjoys giving her time to various clinics as a volunteer. In her free time, Sprihaa enjoys all things artsy, and has been dancing forever.

ALEX LI

ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Alex is a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Engineering. On campus, Alex is a research assistant at the Bloom Lab studying the molecular interaction in centromeres which give rise to mechanical properties during mitosis. Alex enjoys table tennis, workouts and single-player video games.

ESHA AGARWAL

ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Esha is a junior pursuing a BS major in Environmental Health Sciences and minoring in Chemistry. Esha has been a part of Carolina Scientific for the past two years, serving as both a staff writer and now an associate editor.

At UNC, she helps facilitate the Minority Health Conference and researches in the field of Parkinson's Disease.

For fun, Esha loves going for walks, watching (and starting) new TV shows, and trying to make new recipes!

KIRINA SHAH

ONLINE CONTENT MANAGER

Kirina is a senior pursuing a B.S. in Psychology and minors in Neuroscience and Medical Anthropology. She has previously worked on Carolina Scientific as a staff writer and copy editor.

On campus, she is involved in research with UNC Mother-Infant Studies, investigating the impact of prenatal substance abuse on childhood development. She hopes to attend a JD/PhD program after graduation.

In her free time she enjoys reading, thrifting, and watching scary movies!

REAGAN GULLEDGE

SECRETARY

Reagan is a junior pursuing a BS in Environmental Science and minoring in Chemistry. She joined Carolina Scientific her freshman year and has worked as a copy-editor, staff writer, and blog writer. On campus, Reagan is an intern for the NC Collaboratory center. During her spare time, she works at the Shrunken Head Boutique on Franklin St. and enjoys reading and running.
